POD Management: Prioritising Employee Wellbeing in the Property Management Industry

With Mental Health Awareness Month ongoing this May, organisations across every sector are reflecting on what it truly means to support employee wellbeing. Within the property management industry, teams balance operational demands, resident expectations and fast-paced working environments, so a structured approach to wellbeing and support is essential to building resilient, engaged and high-performing teams.

At POD Management, wellbeing is embedded into the culture of our business, shaping how our teams are supported, developed and empowered every day. Through a structured wellbeing strategy, leadership commitment and employee-led initiatives, POD continues to evolve a people-first approach that prioritises physical, mental and financial wellbeing across the organisation.

Why Wellbeing Matters in Property Management

The property management industry is built on people. Whether supporting residents, maintaining safe environments or delivering exceptional service standards, employees are at the heart of every successful operation. Working in UK property management is inherently demanding and with increasing workloads, changing expectations and growing conversations around mental health, employers must ensure they are creating environments where people feel supported both professionally and personally.

At POD, our staff are our lifeblood. Without them, we truly wouldn’t be able to achieve what we do day in day out. For that reason, wellbeing is viewed as a shared responsibility that runs throughout the employee lifecycle, not a standalone initiative owned by one department. Senior leaders, line managers and employees all play a role in creating a healthy, inclusive and collaborative workplace culture.

This people-first approach is underpinned by POD’s employee wellbeing strategy, which focuses on six focus areas:

  • Inclusivity, employee voice and collaboration

  • Values-driven culture

  • Physical safety and health

  • Rewards, recognition and financial wellbeing

  • Training, development and career progression

  • Equity, diversity and inclusion

Together, these help create a workplace where employees feel heard, valued and empowered to thrive.

Building a Culture of Openness and Support

One of the most important aspects of workplace wellbeing is ensuring employees feel comfortable speaking openly about mental health and wellbeing challenges. At POD, wellbeing conversations are integrated into everyday working life through quarterly one-to-one meetings, employee surveys and regular engagement initiatives.

We also use monthly Pulse surveys and an annual Engagement and Wellbeing Survey to better understand employee experiences and identify areas where additional support may be needed. Importantly, feedback never sits idle and is always used to inform meaningful action through our ‘you said, we did’ approach that helps shape future employee wellbeing initiatives and organisational priorities.

This commitment to listening has contributed to strong engagement outcomes, with POD’s overall wellbeing score improving to 82% in 2025. Additionally, over 83% of employees agreed that POD supports their health and wellbeing, while wellbeing Pulse scores reached 98% in this year. (We are currently in the process of collating our stats for 2026, which we will be posting soon!)

By actively encouraging employee voice and participation, POD ensures wellbeing remains relevant, responsive and embedded into the wider culture of the organisation.

Supporting Mental, Physical and Financial Wellbeing

Workplace wellbeing extends beyond mental health alone. Financial pressures, physical health and work-life balance all contribute significantly to an employee’s overall wellbeing and ability to perform at their best.

POD’s employee wellbeing offering reflects this holistic approach. Employees have access to a range of benefits and support mechanisms, including:

  • A confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

  • Mental Health First Aiders across the business

  • Gym and fitness discounts

  • A cycle-to-work scheme

  • Westfield Health cash plan support

  • Financial wellbeing education and guidance

  • Flexible working arrangements where possible

  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay

  • Pension salary sacrifice initiatives

Alongside these formal benefits, POD promotes employee wellbeing through campaigns and activities focused on topics such as sleep, mental health awareness and financial literacy. Initiatives including walking meetings, movement challenges and wellbeing workshops, like Zumba and Yoga, help encourage healthier habits and greater connection across teams.

Accessibility is also a key priority. Any wellbeing initiatives are delivered both virtually and in person to support operational and office-based colleagues working across different sites and shift patterns.

Employee Wellbeing Structure

Leadership Commitment Drives Lasting Change

A successful wellbeing culture requires visible and ongoing leadership commitment. At POD, senior leaders play an active role in shaping and reviewing wellbeing strategies, ensuring employee wellbeing remains a consistent business priority rather than a reactive exercise.

Survey findings and wellbeing data are reviewed at Senior Management Team level to help identify trends, monitor engagement and guide decision-making. Our Wellbeing Committee, made up of employees from different roles and locations, also helps to drive initiatives across the business and ensure diverse perspectives are represented.

This collaborative approach helps create accountability at every level of the organisation while reinforcing the message that wellbeing is a pivotal part of POD’s foundations.

Importantly, POD’s leadership commitment also extends to financial wellbeing and fair pay practices. We remain committed to paying the London Living Wage and recently introduced pension salary sacrifice options to help employees increase pension contributions more efficiently.

Inclusion as a Foundation of Wellbeing

A truly supportive workplace is one where people feel safe, respected and able to be themselves. We recognise that inclusion and wellbeing are closely connected, which is why equity, diversity and inclusion form a central part of our employee wellbeing strategy.

We endorse and promote fairness, inclusion, and psychological safety through inclusive policies, flexible working arrangements and ongoing learning opportunities, covering topics such as unconscious bias and gender identity and expression. Awareness initiatives further help foster a culture of belonging and respect.

By ensuring wellbeing support is inclusive and accessible, POD continues to create an environment where all employees can contribute fully and confidently.

Evolving Wellbeing for the Future

Wellbeing is not static, and employee expectations continue to evolve. That is why POD remains committed to continuously improving and strengthening our employee wellbeing strategy year after year.

Our future goals include increasing participation in annual wellbeing surveys, further embedding wellbeing initiatives across all teams and rolling out Psychosocial Risk Assessments to better understand workplace stress factors and support employee mental health proactively.

We also continue to benchmark the company externally through initiatives such as the TPI wellbeing survey and the BSC Five Star Audit, helping ensure our approach remains aligned with best practice across the property management industry.

As Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us, creating a supportive workplace culture is about consistently prioritising people, listening to feedback and building environments where employees can thrive. Even just a few open conversations can lead to remarkable outcomes.

At POD, wellbeing remains central to that commitment, helping the business continue delivering exceptional service while supporting the people who make it possible every day.
